GIDE is an AI-powered code editor and CLI, built on VS Code OSS, that runs a local LLM entirely on the user's machine using llama.cpp. It offers an agent mode that plans, edits across files, runs commands and verifies its own output, gated by a write/plan approval system before any change is made. It supports bundled local models (Ornith, Qwen, Gemma, DeepSeek) as well as bring-your-own-key cloud models (Claude, GPT, Gemini), and targets individual developers, teams and regulated/air-gapped environments.
